ForwordFor several centuries India was governed by foreign rulers. Especially under the British Imperialistic rule, the plight of Indians was piteons. Indians were weak, poor and oppressed. Moreover, social evils like dowry, sati, gender discrimation and superstitions were rampant. Many great social reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Dayanand Saraswathi and Swami Vivekananda, dedicated their lives for the upliftment of our society. Now, in independent India, the Government too has come up with innumerable schemes and plans to further the development of the nation. However, thousands of villages in our country are still beneft of the basic amenities like electricity, water and transportation. It is very unfortunate to note that many have not been able to rise above the poverty line. There are mnay NGO’s and institutions working sincerely towards the betterment of our society. One such institution is Jai Sri Krishna Charitable Trust. We welcome you to an ancient village, DODDA MALLUR, situated on the banks of river Kanva. Due to lack of proper care and maintenance, this old temple was on the verge of crumbling. But the timely effort of a pious and ardent devotee, Dr. R.S.Varadaraj, restored the temple to its old grandeur. The task of RSV is commendable as he successfully completed it against all odds. This earned his a reputation as a great renovator and restorer of old temples. He has to his credit of renovated 47 temples in and around Mallur. His noble advice and services are sought after, not only in Karnataka, but also in distant Gujrat. It is Dr. R.S.V’s efficient and endless effort, which has transformed Mallur to a modern town. He set up the “JAI SRI KRISHNA CHARITABLE TRUST” for multifarious social welfare schemes. DR. R.S.V. never forgets to lament the unstinted help, co-operation and support of his friends, to this noble task. M/s. MVN Swamy and Sons, Sri Chandru Kowdly of USA, Smt. Ahgalya Garudachar, Sri. T.S. Raghavan, Sri. M. Govindaraja Bhattar, Sri. K.R. Lakshmish and many more.
